Oh, and I would like to point out is how the rules seem to change periodically. The rules seem to change a lot that it can make a person's head spin. And that's another thing that's hard to accomplish for the chat; no one can't seem to figure out what they like or dislike about the rules. One minute a selected group likes the rules, on the next minute the selected group dislikes the rules and want them changed.

Another thing is how people seem to ignore "mod's discretion". I know that the chat shouldn't be a dictatorship—it shouldn't—but people tend to ignore that part and assume in a little debate about what they're doing. As said above, a mod shouldn't be above anyone in the chat or be too strict/ease-backed; but I do think that "mod's discretion" should be emphasized more, or at least explained.

As Skelly and Likferd said, the problem is attention-seeking. Not really sure how to quantify that as a rule, but I trust Skel will handle it, I suppose.

EDIT: Also, agreed with Fatal. There have been multiple occasions where I've seen chat mods say "Sorry, that's one too many exclamation points, rules say I have to ban you" or various things to that effect. There are things about the rules that need to be taken seriously and things that aren't as high a priority. Typing a word or two in allcaps or with exclamation points is the latter category. For some reason, though, a lot of mods seem to be really anal retentive about it.

This is the crap I'm talking about. Why are we recruiting zombies who mindlessly enforce rules without having any kind of common sense or understanding of why these rules exist in the first place? We kick people when everything they type is in caps, not because they used five instead of four.

Nor should we be kicking users for posting three sentences without calling "wall!" Really, what is being accomplished there? We not only need moderators who know how to dole out appropriate penalties, but also to remove rules that are followed merely for the sake of procedure.

Well, and that's the thing. There aren't any specific guidelines for "how many" exclamation points are too many, or caps words. I don't know where the mods I'm talking about think they're getting their numbers from. It seems more like it's a pet peeve for them that they're making out to be rules (ie, someone finds allcaps really, really annoying for whatever reason and makes out any small instance of it to be a rule violation because of this personal annoyance).

By the way, for clarity, while I'm not a staff member here, I'm an admin over on Spinpasta; I'm the one who wrote the version of the chat rules that carried over here when chat came back up. I don't know how much they've changed since then.

I will not say any names in this, just stating what happened.

I was in chat, everyone was being...inappropriate. And user 1 came in and asked to read their pasta. User 2 then said "It sucks" I asked if they had read it and they said "I don't have to read it, they're stupid and so is their pasta" I complained about it and they ignored me. Continuing they began to insult User 1's name, constantly referencing child pornography. I attempted to defend User 1 I was ignored and called a "White knight" I was eventually shut down by Moderator 1. Moderator 1 then proceeded to kick user one from chat because they said something along the lines of "wfbqwfiooae" moderator one called that "Spam" and stated that User 1 didn't deserve multiple chances because they were spamming. Moderator 2 then stated that it was really only a "Short string of BS" and didn't warrant an immediate kick. Basically I left chat that night disliking the Creepy past chat, and feeling that Moderator 1 did not deserve their moderatorness. The only thing I think could help would be...Sorry to say, but actually helpful chat mods.

We could find common intrests? Like games, music, the fact that Bionicle returns 2015, different creepypasta characters, humour etc. Really, I've been on other sites like this where the chat is just a bunch of people pissing about and enjoying themselves. Let's save any kind of reviewing or slagging off for talk pages and the workshop, not the chat. Let's just have peace in the place where we're supposed to put our feet up and have a natter. We can do that right?
