<p>So, I did a bit of research on what was the first creepypasta, and I came across a strange realisation: Before the "new" creepypasta came (with an actual story and whatnot), the chain-mail phenomenom did roughly the same thing. So, if I want to know what the first creepypasta is, should I look for the first chain-mail? And if not, what is the first "new" creepypasta according to you people?

<p>Well. It depends on what you would call the first, really. If you mean the first made, then I have no clue. However, if you mean certain key pastas that started events (For instance, grabbing attention for Creepypasta on a global scale), then I would say Slenderman, completely based off of the Slenderman killings and look alikes, plus the games. I would also consider other significant Pastas to be the precursors that sort of led the way to Pasta fame. These would include Jeff the Killer (Sadly), BEN Drowned, probably a poke pasta although I have no clue on what those would be on the scale, etc. (While I know that this isn't what you asked, my research brought up zero results for the first Creepypasta. I suppose you could find the creator of the site and ask him?)

<p>There is no true "first" creepypasta since creepypasta is usually defined as Internet horror stories and legends. The term itself came from "copypasta," which meant stories that were copied around. I guess you could chalk up the first creepypasta as a chain mail or a copypasta from early imageboards in the 90's.
