In this article, we discussed many interesting topics, including the character creation process and the new game "Bloody Painter Dating Sim". Have fun reading!

1. Tell us about your inspiration for creating the Bloody Painter. What books or films have influenced your work?
The character "Bloody Painter" was created by me in 2013 on the DeviantART platform.
At the time, I was just a teenager fascinated by the Creepypasta culture, which inspired me to create my own character.
However, the story I wrote back then was still underdeveloped.
As I grew older, I realized that the story I created in 2013 felt too immature and simplistic.
So, I started reading materials related to criminal psychology, including biographies of real-life serial killers, books by psychologists and neuroscientists, publications about how forensic psychiatric hospitals operate, and detailed descriptions of FBI case investigations.
I read books about everyone who might be involved in a serial murder case, and my bookshelf gradually filled with thick, comprehensive reference materials.
These books later became a source of inspiration for developing my character’s story.
I spent an enormous amount of time reading these real-world resources, all to make the character more vivid and realistic.
I wanted to create a serial killer character who was as intelligent, realistic, and charismatic as Hannibal Lecter, rather than a simple and brutal killer like those in B-grade horror movies.
In 2017, I rewrote Bloody Painter's entire story.
Here is the 2017 version: https://youtu.be/AaHgY62-ggI.
The storyline in the game is a continuation and spin-off based on the 2017 version.
However, the events in the game are not related to the main plot of Bloody Painter's story.
You can think of it as a beautiful dream that the author created to give back to the fans.
2. What was the biggest challenge in the game development process?
One of the biggest challenges during development was debugging.
Since this was my first game, and I had no prior experience with programming languages, I initially used the iFVN-AVG engine to create "Bloody Painter Dating Sim" because it allowed me to develop a game without writing any code.
However, this choice led to numerous bugs, and I spent a lot of time and effort figuring out how to fix them, which caused me a great deal of frustration.
Eventually, I met the programmer LoS-Light, who helped me address the remaining bugs.
This collaboration marked the beginning of our continued partnership in developing new games.
3. How did you come up with the idea to create a game in this genre? Did you have any other ideas?
From the start, I decided to set the game in a horror + romance style because I personally enjoy games that combine these two elements.
I believe that a visual novel game with this mix is very appealing.
However, I initially hadn’t decided on the exact ratio of horror to romance within the game.
In the final product, I feel it’s more of a horror game with romantic elements rather than a romance game.
The balance is about 70% horror and 30% romance.
When I worked on the game live on my YouTube channel, I often joked with my viewers that I no longer knew if I was making a horror game or a romance game (lol).
We are currently developing a new male-targeted visual novel romance game, Sweet Life with Yanlu, set to release in the second half of 2026. It will continue to blend horror and romance in a similar style.
4. What are your plans for the future? Are you planning a sequel or new projects in the same genre?
On Valentine's Day 2025, we will release the Bloody Painter Valentine's Day DLC.
The story in this DLC will be a continuation of one of the good endings.
Additionally, we plan to launch the suspenseful visual novel game "The Zoo" within 2025.

5. Are there any hidden Easter eggs or secrets in the game that players haven't found yet?
On Day 4 of the game, players will find a note in the safe on the living room shelf.
Many players are unsure about the code written on it.
By replacing the code in a YouTube video link with the one on the note, you can view a hidden video.
It's a puzzle I embedded three years ago, and players are encouraged to try and solve it.
There are some unreleased story Easter eggs hidden within.
6. Did you have any ideas and concepts that were not included in the final version of the game?
I want to write more romance-driven interactions in the script.
However, since the player only has seven days to spend with BP in the game, developing the relationship too quickly would feel abrupt, especially given BP's cold-blooded nature.
As a result, the interactions between BP and the player are kept subtle and restrained.
We plan to explore these romantic elements further in the upcoming DLC.
7. How did you work on the soundtrack and music in the game? How important was it to create an atmosphere?
The music used in Bloody Painter Dating Sim consists of free resources, but we are considering using original compositions in future projects.
Since player immersion is crucial in visual novel games, I believe that selecting the right music is an extremely important aspect.
Good background music can help players become more engrossed in the atmosphere of the current storyline, as changes in the soundtrack can have a direct impact on the player's emotions.
8. Were there any moments when you doubted the success of the project? How did you overcome these difficulties?
Yes, honestly, I was worried right up until the game’s release, wondering if the time and effort spent creating it would end up being ignored.
Fortunately, the outcome proved that our half-year of hard work was worth it.
It was a great start for us! I hope players will also enjoy our next project.
10. Did you expect your character to reach such proportions and become so popular in the future?
When I was around 10 years old, I created this character purely for fun.
If I could go back and tell my younger self that this character would become as popular as they are now, my younger self would definitely not believe it.
However, even though my initial motivation was just for fun, I have indeed invested a lot of effort into developing and refining the character over the past 10 years since their creation.
While I can’t say whether all of this was predictable, I believe it’s the result of good luck combined with hard work.
And I would like to ask you a question from myself, if you don't mind! "What do you think about the current Creepypasta fandom, have you had any thoughts of leaving this fandom?"
Thank you for agreeing to participate in this project! Our audience will be very happy to receive feedback.
Yes, in fact, I announced on April 3, 2016, that my character, Bloody Painter, would be stepping away from the Creepypasta community.
The reason I chose to leave at that time was due to several issues within the Creepypasta fanbase.
One of the problems was that dark themes like Creepypasta easily attracted a younger audience, which led to a higher number of immature or extreme individuals within the fanbase.
These individuals would often harass creators of Creepypasta OCs.
For example, I initially paired BP with a friend's character in a romantic relationship, but after my character gained popularity, my friend’s inbox received nearly 300 hateful and threatening messages from BP's fan girls, simply because they didn't want to see the character they crush on with a girlfriend.
I made countless announcements asking them to stop, but the harassment never ceased.
I felt incredibly guilty for not being able to protect my friend from this situation.
This kind of thing wasn’t just happening to me; it happened to other creators whose original characters became popular as well.
Some creators left the community because they could no longer bear such experiences.
It was disheartening to see many creators I admired leave, but I completely understood why they did.
Of course, not all fans were like that; I know that rational fans still make up the majority.
However, enduring long-term malice and feeling powerless in the face of unchangeable situations can accumulate a lot of pressure on creators.
At that time, I believed the environment was "toxic" for creators, which is why I left the Creepypasta community for a while.
It wasn't until June 11, 2017, after I revamped my character, that I announced BP's return to Creepypasta.
When I brought the character back to the Creepypastacommunity that year, I noticed that the community as a whole was not as vibrant as it used to be.
I'm not sure if this was due to the departure of many talented creators, which led to a gradual decline in the fanbase.
However, after returning BP to Creepypasta, I began to immerse myself in my creative work, and since then, I haven’t paid much attention to the overall state of the Creepypasta fanbase.
I’ve simply focused on creating and publishing my work.
I’m not certain if the same issues that existed around 2016 are still present in the Creepypasta fanbase today,
but I hope the community can become healthier over time.
9. How did you approach the creation of dialogues and the choice of options that affect the development of the plot?
The initial concept was to have the MC's personality change based on the player's choices, leading each player to a different version of the MC.
The "abnormality" of the MC's personality would influence BP's attitude toward her and the final relationship they would have.
Therefore, it can be said that there isn't a single "true ending"; every player has their own version of the true ending.
We would like to express our deep gratitude to DeluCat for agreeing to answer our questions and share her insights and stories. Your time and openness are really valuable to us and our readers. Thank you for making this interview possible! 💙
