I think art is far more flexible and open to technology to assist it’s process, which is why its (very context sensitive) to use AI to help. But in most cases, even a polished end product is highly doctored or edited. Emphasis on “product”, since the prompter already has let the computer do all the leg work. Which at that point…if you already are editing it to look less scrupulous, why not go the full mile?
Writing is more black and white than that. Everything fun about it comes from style and diction - things like proper grammar or spelling, or the way ideas are put forward, are already expected to meet a standard upon publishing anywhere. Letting a computer do effectively all the work for you so you can claim ownership over the final product is plagiarism, at its core. Its taking something you did not make, without alteration, and making it “yours.”
Now, if someone wanted to use it to fix up grammar and then rewrite it, that’d be one thing. Some people have dyslexia and are physically incapable of catching all their mistakes or typos. But again, instead of trying to discretely pass off an AI prompt as your original work, why not utilize it for what its meant to be; a tool. A monkey wrench is designed to take off lugnuts, it cannot change the entire tire for you. A bike can get you to a doctor’s office, but that doesnt mean youre allowed to bring it inside. Get the idea?
