I suppose this was inevitable. Never thought it would be me asking for it's return.
It has been around two months since the close of chat, the original time period for the temporary shutdown. In that time the regular chat members migrated to several other chat rooms, from Trollpasta, to Spinpasta, and to various personal wikias. Many close friends lost contact with each other, and moderators lost their jobs.
But this isn't about the users. It's about chat. Instead of talking about how much good it did, which was basically none, I want to talk about how much good it CAN do, with the help of new rules, new policies, and new moderators.
One thing that can be immensely valuable is the ability to help users with questions or that otherwise need help. Previously, this was not the case, unfortunately. However, with help of some minor rules, we can help encourage this.
-Be respectful. Regardless of their opinions, preference, or otherwise, make an effort to be polite and help newer users with questions. Being rude or flame-baiting of fandoms (Including fans of Jeff the Killer, Ben drowned, or other commonly disliked fandoms) will result in a ban.
Another very useful function of chat is its most obvious: Instant messaging. This allows writers, reviewers, and admins to all communicate important information quickly and efficiently. However, an issue was the constant "shit-posting", spam, and drama.
Really, the drama is an easy fix. Make it very clear in the rules that starting or attempting to start drama is an immediate ban. If a user wishes to make a claim of bias or power abuse, they will be asked to take these claims to either a PM, or make a forum post providing evidence.
That brings us to our next topic: Bias. We're guilty of it, in some form or another. However, we want to minimize this bias to provide a fair, fun, and useful chat for everyone. One way we can do this is a two step process.
-First, demote all current moderators. This will give us a fresh start to work with
-Secondly, admins and bcrats will promote users they deem trustworthy and fair. The old voting system only encouraged users to vote for their friends, not who they thought would be a good moderator.
To finish, I have a request for the admins. At the first sign of drama, delete this thread. I'm not creating this thread so people can further taint something that has potential to be a very useful feature to this wikia. I would appreciate if this thread was highlighted so the entire community can voice their opinions, but I would understand if this was just deleted on sight. If, however, you decide to keep this thread open, instead of the standard 10 day voting period I think a full 30 days would be beneficial.
