Ever read a scary story, and then years go by, and you can't for the life of you remember where you read it? Post a description here and maybe somebody will recognize and identify it for you.
I've been trying to identify the short story anthology where I read the following stories. These may have all been in the same anthology, or they might be from different books altogether. Regardless, I can't find the books I read them in.
1. I want to say this one was the first or second story in the anthology that featured it. It was weird and unconventional, because it involved a guy visiting an old friend or relative, and seeing a strange worm in the garden, which the friend steps on in disgust. Later the protagonist dreams about the worm and his friend dying. Soon after the dream, his friend contracts some form of cancer and dies. The protagonist is left wondering if the worm was responsible, or if it was just a metaphor for death.
2. A young girl's creepy grandma is buried in a pink casket. For several nights the grandmother's dead arms keep stretching across the city to take the girl to her grave with her, because she was so obsessive over the kid when she was alive. Nobody believes the girl when she tells them about it, and a doctor gives her sleeping pills, so that finally she is unable to stop the arms from dragging her to her death.
3. A young girl hates her stepmom, and wishes she had her real mom back, even though she never knew the woman before she'd died. She starts studying black magic and finds a way to have her dead mother possess her stepmother, figuring anything must be better than the cruel bitch she's currently stuck with. Once possessed by the birth mother, stepmom proceeds to murder her daughter as she had originally intended when she was born.
4. A group of boys stay in the snowy mountains with the help of an indian guide who tells them tales of the sasquatch. At the end, the guide is gone a long time, then bursts into the cabin, his face mauled, warning the kids to flee. He then collapses, and I think the sasquatch kills the kids.
Thanks in advance to everyone who reads this. I'm at the end o' my rope trying to find these again.
