Serial killer âHeartbreakerâ has been caught.
As of late last night, the serial killer known as âHeartbreakerâ has finally been arrested. He has been identified as Matthias Hargreaves, local bar owner and barista. Upon further inspection of the building, there were jars of hearts in the back room.
The family of Matthias refused interviews.

Dr. Michelson sighed, looking over the case file. The worst case heâd seen in a while, maybe even worse than that one kid who had killed their parents in a fire. Matthias was waiting patiently in the room, staring blankly at the wall. It was different from the photos heâd seen prior, the photos of the charming flirt who ran the small town bar.
Opening the door slowly, he braced himself for whatever would be said at first. It surprised him how quickly the killer switched.
âAh! You must be the doctor in charge of my evaluation. Itâs nice to meet you.â Matthias flashed a smile. Had the circumstances been different, John would have been flattered. He saw through it all, though.
âNice to meet you too, Matthias. I am Dr. Michelson, but you can call me John.â He replied calmly, trying not to stumble over his words. âLetâs start this off small.. What was your family life like?â
âIt wasnât horrible, Iâve heard worse. Dad wasnât there that much, mom was overprotective and controlled everything. She was narcissistic..â He sighed, giving a melodramatic eye roll. âWe had a cat, her name was Puffin.â
âYeah? Where is she now?â John pushed, writing down on the clipboard he held.
âDead. I killed her. Tied her up and broke her bones until I got bored.â
John went pale, his face dropping as he paused for a moment, before gulping heavily and continuing.
âWhy did you do that?â
âI wanted to.â The answers were so nonchalant, as if describing what one had for dinner. It was disturbing. âI was bored, it was summer, and I wanted to.â
â..oh.â
âSomething wrong, doctor?â Matthias asked, voice so sickly sweet. John felt sick, shaking his head quickly.
âNo, no. Let's continue.â
John flipped a few pages forward, looking at the records they had. Incident reports, school records, the sort. Cruelty to animals was consistent throughout Matthiasâ childhood. Reports of bedwetting, as well. Not as consistent, but it happened after the age of 12 for quite a while. Setting fires too. Matthias fit the requirements for the MacDonald triad, the early warning signs for psychopathy.
John looked back up at Matthias, who was staring blankly.
âWhat made you choose your victims?â He asked cautiously.
âGot bored, they looked at me weird, or they embarrassed me. Some of them looked like my mom, too.â He said with a shrug.
âAnd.. how did you kill them?â Dr. Michelson pushed. His heart dropped when Matthiasâ face seemed to light up, an empty grin plastering itself across his features.
âPicked them up at my bar, played the long game. Made them fall in love with me before I killed them, just to see the hurt on their face as I carved their heart out. I didnât care much for the mess, yâknow. I lived with it, though.â He explained, leaning forward with a disturbing look in his eyes. There was no shine, no life in those blue eyes. They were evil in every sense of the word.
John looked at the clock, sighing internally as relief flushed over him. Their time was up for this session, thank god. He didnât look forward to tomorrow.
âUnfortunately thatâs all the time we have today. Iâll be seeing you tomorrow, though.â John moved to stand, before Matthias tugged on his coat.
âI wouldnât be so sure of that.â
