The stars look nice, so nice...
They streak, they shine, they’re stellar.
We should’ve taken them to heart...
Now hiding in this cellar.

Disappearing, dimming, and shrinking...
The nights have lost their lights.
We wait, and wait more.
Never knowing how they could be so vital to our nights...

Returning, welcomed, and celebrated.
They dot the sky, a normal sight.
How did we never expect...
That they would be such a blight?

The screams begin, the roars are heard...
They stretch and groan, now writhing and squirming...
Heads are gone, morphed and stretched.
Those are now giving, tithing.

The children scream, they cry...
They melt into shells, bare and thin.
As though we were warned...
As we lose our skin.

They dot the nights, more and more...
No nights more, the day reigns.
Those who hide, they wish for life...
After those who stay, who consume the remains.

They’re alive, adults in hiding.
You’ll never wish to see them at first.
We hide, and pray for more life.
While they hang, quenching their thirst.

We can’t stay, we can’t hide.
They’re within us, a scared being.
They call to us, reaching out...
I’m now inclined, to start agreeing...
