Well done. It's always nice to see an actual backstory for characters like this.... I mean, he's gotta be doing or dealing with something along the way as he trains to be a champion. Although the orphan part sounds hastily placed in. Noreenarshad, TheIceWriter 23:01, August 9, 2011 (UTC)

Nice take. I remember when I saw him in the tower just looking around, I was just like "Oh hey, it's Gary." I also never noticed that the Raticate disappeared. Although to be fair, it could be that he put his Raticate in the PC, and just went to the tower to catch pokemon, but then again, we never see him with any ghost types, and there's no gym in Lavender. It's amazing how a simple observation can make you feel totally messed up inside.

It's a bit of a stretch to assume that the reason that Blue/Gary doesn't have his Raticate in his party is because Red/the player killed it. Raticate is pretty useless as the game goes on (Its completly useless against ghost types as it only has normal type moves), so Gary most likely just tossed it in the box and swapped in a better pokemon. A smart trainer would switch up their team if the pokemon in it kept losing. Also note that in Yellow he also ditches his Fearow.

Gary/Blue's reason for being in Lavender town is the same as the player's, he had to take the Rock Tunnel detour to get to Celadon, because of the Snorlax and the dickish guards at the Saffron city gates. He might as well explore Lavender town before heading to Celadon.

And if we're going to assume that Gary is an orphan because we don't see his parents, atleast he still has an older sister and a grandfather, which is twice as much family as the player who only has a mother. Plus he's rich, and a bit of a dick, so screw feeling sorry for Gary mother f---ing Oak. Pintsize42 (talk) 05:31, July 20, 2012 (UTC)

Actually, the possiblity of Gary being an orphan has been played upon in the Pokemon Zensho Manga (which follows Red/Blue better than any manga). In that canon, his parents died in a horrible accident. As for the theory, I both love and hate it. It is pretty brilliant. But, there are a few flaws (Like the fact that everyone, even the Rival has access to the PC). I really hate it because of the fact it is very likely to be true.
