Context and Setting[]

SCP Logo (secure, contain, protect)

The SCP Foundation is a powerful shadow government that seeks to Secure, Contain, and Protect (as per the designation of their institution) various objects, entities, and extranormal phenomena that go bump in the night. Secrecy and detailed analyses are their modus operandi for all their work.

From classically supernatural creatures to scientific oddities that violate all known laws of physics, there is not a single instance of anomalous happenings that this cold, clinical organization does not seek to contain (or at least, be rid of long enough to push back the literal end of the world). Very rarely do they actively destroy or Neutralize said anomalies.

Each SCP article holds a number designating their placement in the many thousands of archived instances. Each SCP (or “skip”, as they are known between staff) has a threat level called an Object Class. These ranks are typically graded in terms of how difficult the SCP is to contain rather than their inherent danger; it is entirely possible to see a Safe SCP capable of obliterating a city that is fine with being thrown in a locked chest, or a Keter entity that is virtually harmless but refuses to stay in its holding area. Most SCP are Euclid by nature, meaning something of moderate interest and confinability.

Each article contains a variety of descriptions, experimental and audio logs, and other inquiries that detail the SCP: often, the nature of the item is so mind-blowing, the effects can even be seen affecting articles themselves.

Additionally, a variety of nebulously-connected tales from various timelines can be found on site, detailing the various misadventures of prominent figures who work in such a deadly and bizarre universe and still somehow find a way to survive.
