Although I haven't spoken to Skelly about things since chat has been shut down, I think the evidence here provides all the proof that's needed over the "is the chat shutdown permanent/temporary?" question.

Chat is down for two months, people

If you read through the comments (pay attention to what Skelly says too), a general, albeit loose, consensus was reached that stated that three weeks seemed like a good idea. Do you really think Skelly would've taken it down with the intention of keeping it down forever without telling anyone?

The community spoke. Three weeks is what is happening.

EDIT: Per the conversation below, it has been decided that a chat shutdown of 2 months would be best for the site. August 30th will now be the day that chat is reopened.

Also, I think I want to really hammer home something Skelly mentioned below: "Oh, and if the chat continues to cause problems, the next shutdown will be permanent."

Take that to heart, everyone. Chat issues really have become that serious.

    • When did the "community" speak exactly, and why can't we see ban logs?

Go look at all the supports in the thread combined with time that people seemed to agree upon toward the end. And what do ban logs have to do with anything?

    • Still might not be coming back.

    • I already left a message on Guy's talk page regarding this, but I'll go ahead and say it here: I don't think three weeks is enough time. Summer is stressful enough without chat issues constantly popping up on the main site, and I feel admins should put all their focus on maintaining the wiki until it becomes a bit more manageable (mid- to late-August). So I think two months would be a better time.

Oh, and if the chat continues to cause problems, the next shutdown will be permanent.

Whenever the chat shuts down, so does the ban logs. All bans are null until the chat comes back. The community spoke about this two days ago, when the thread was made. Skelly got ill about the chat, and how people were responding to both threads Guy's made to show the downside of the chat, that he just closed the chat completely. I asked him if he wanted to close it right now, or wait 8 days. He responded with "I want to close it permanently."

But, it has been clarified by him on the Trollpasta wiki chat that the chat is closed down for a good three weeks, for now. This is just a guess, if the chat gets more drama again, it'll be a permanent closing.

EDIT: While writing this, people were typing too fast.

What Thread, and why wasn't it highlighted?

Reason I am bringing up ban logs is that I can't check mine or anyone else's.

Okay, sorry about double post, you must've posted at the same time I did.

What "drama" exactly? It's been pretty fine for the last couple weeks.

    • Also as said in somebody's talk page:

Two months seems good to me too. Gives enough time to pay attention to the site over the summer, and also gives enough time to at least get ready for when chat's back, in terms of at the very least trying to set some measures to try to counter the problems chat had.

I also echo on the whole 'if chat continues continues causing problems, then the next shutdown should be permanent'.

Yes to all of this. Two months is what we need. A long needed vacation.

How about August 15th? Seems like a reasonable time. Let me know so I can edit the original post.

I'd say August 30th since that's about two months away and closer to the end of Summer.
