  • A wise man once told me it's better to start something at the beginning of a month, and so here we are.  The b-crats, admins, and I have all been discussing a lot of pressing issues with stories and how frequent the deletions of new stories have been and the vocal objections to some older stories, much in the same vein as the now-deleted Jeff the Killer or Sonic.exe.

A huge problem on this site is the attempts by our team to control the quality of incoming stories.  However, we are a small group of people controlling a large influx of stories, and our tastes might not be as refined as everyone elses'.  We removed the Flagged for Deletion polls years ago due to the ability of the polling systems to be abused.  Since then, though, it has largely been up to the admin team to delete stories, or the rollbackers to mark possible offenders.

We are a community here on Wikia, and as such, I have been fighting for your rights to have a voice in this deletion process.

Beginning tomorrow, stories will no longer be deleted from this site based on quality control standards.  Instead, ALL stories, both new and the very old, will be subject to deletion based on popularity polls that will be posted on the physical talk pages of all stories (Example: Talk:BEN Drowned), something we haven't used in years since we activated article comments.  All stories will have links at the bottom of the story pointing users and readers to the talk page, and thus the poll therein.

I would like to personally thank EmpyrealInvective for hand-coding a much more secure poll format that is both free from the abuse of the former Wikia polls and easy to put into a template that, with a few keystrokes, can be effortlessly put on pages via our bot.

I would also like to thank SnuffBomb for supplying a nice blog post that highlighted the discord in our userbase, and the need for a broader standard of deciding what is and is not deleted from the site.  It has since been removed from the site, however.

    • That idea is one of great reckoning. That horrible turtle shall die, now, and cannibal with too many ellipses, watch out! Yet, as they below did say, here we are in Year-Change Fish-People Day.

I think it's about time that we really got away from this quality approach and focused more on a story's popularity and ability to get people to read them through hot-button topics and attention-grabbing titles. Hopefully with trendy new topics that more popular narrators on YouTube are bringing light to, writers will have a general idea of what they should write about. Ideally we should be hand-selecting stories that are narrated by MrCreepypasta, CreepsMcPasta, and other well known narrators for maximum popularity. After all, stories don't just become popular for no reason, I think this will really benefit the community overall.

    • Can we get a bit more details on the new deletion system? Popularity polls are always tricky. I can see users who previously had stories deleted by, say, Empyre, voting to delete his stories just out of spite.

    • By the way, it's not April the first in Greece any longer, so I'm not really sure if this is a Fool's thing or not.

That's why we have an improved polling system that locks in IP address so we can isolate vote-spammers. Additionally we will be looking around to make sure no one is petitioning stories to be deleted out of spite or saved out of laziness. It'll be pretty similar to what we do to make sure stories aren't plagiarized from other sources.

    • Good job!

    • Why would we need poll for deleting? That just seems a lot slower.

    • I oppose this. It's a good idea, but it means that only stories that at least a few people found will actually get taken care of. The rest of the bad stories will sit around. Creepypasta wiki's goal is to "have a well-stocked collection of scary stories." Since bad stories are not scary and this system will risk many not getting deleted, it goes against this wiki's goal.

    • You're going to be even less excited about the other news, if this deletion trial run is a success in the next coming weeks, we're going to extend it to blogs to let the wiki decide if certain blogs are worth keeping by group vote.

    • Oh, something I forgot to mention: deviantArt fanart and YouTube readings count toward the positive side and will help stories remain on-site under this new system.  This was one of the most-requested features from users!

Seems beneficial to the site and more user-friendly, may bring more people to the wiki also.

I'm so glad to see this proposal be put forward. Instead of having to put a lot of time into my stories, I can just do positive vote for vote trading with my friends! I guess now is as good a time as any to announce my plans to launch a Creepypasta YouTube channel, since we'll be going off those views as well.

Looking forward to the brave new world that tomorrow shall usher in! Good work everybody!

Good to hear you mentioning Blood Whistle because that is a highly featured story on YouTube and will clearly be returning to this wiki.

You've killed quality, you really did.

We really didn't, we just subbed out the "l" for an "n"... I know that doesn't actually spell out quantity, but who cares? Quality is dead. Please likevote this comment or it will be deleted under our new policy.

    • Wow! Does this mean that the criticially aclaimed story Sonic.Exe will be making it's return to the wiki?

        Loading editor
    • I fully support this. This may open up the wiki for certain stories to become part of the wiki that could not have otherwise been.

One question, though. If a story isn't even CLOSE to standards will the admins delete it anyway, just as an executive decision?

    • In the end it all depends on those sweet, sweet YouTube votes (best sidle up to DoomVroom now as popularity is king here.)

Dude, Sonic.exe is on the trollpasta wiki, where you can always read it. (the evil patrixxx faces in the backgroung do kind of ruin the experience while you're reading it, though). It's still there, and always will be. Of course, that doesn't mean it WON'T be coming back, but don't count on it.

    • I for one think this innovation is amazing. I'm really tired of having only good stories accepted to the wiki since it makes it harder for my own to look good by comparison. By opening the door to all of the subpar submissions sure to be uploaded in the coming months, readers coming across a halfway decent story will feel like a man lost in the desert happening upon an oasis. And that's not even considering that sometimes I just want to read something thats straight up bad. I mean, my brain just can't handle coherent plots and correct spelling and grammar 24/7 you know? Its like we are health nuts bringing McDonald's back into our diet. You know it's bad for you and it doesn't even taste that good, but sometimes you've just gotta crush that Big Mac.

I'm sorry but the YouTube readings beg to differ... In fact, according to votes/popularity, it'll be front page for the first couple of months.

That was then, this is now. Popular vote demands "Sonic.exe", "Blood Whistle", "My Immortal", and "Jeff the Killer" to all be returned to this wiki post-haste.

    • I demand at least fifty pokepastas, each with the exact same structure, and the only difference being whether a pokemon is cursed, a legendary, a shiny legendary, etc., and some other minor details can be changed as wanted.

      And fries. I want fries.

    • I'm so glad we're getting rid of those pesky quality standards. Too many perfectly godawful yet popular stories have been deleted from the Wiki for silly things like "being completely illiterate" or "being so facepalmingly stupid that you hit your head on a wall a few hundred times just to make yourself feel better." I mean, who needs quality when you have popularity?

I for one completely support this new, revolutionary, and genius proposal. Thank you, admins, for recognizing that this Wiki shouldn't celebrate quality, but instead celebrate stupidity. I look forward to seeing the return of such well known stories like "Jeff the Killer," "Blood Whistle," and, of course, the amazingly popular "Sonic.exe." I mean, that story has millions of fans. We'd be stupid not to have it on here.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go vomit. Even as a joke, that really hurt to write.
