  • So I was thinking to myself recently. We have a poll for pasta of the month, right? We nominate a pasta, vote on it, then the pasta with the most votes becomes pasta of the month!

Well, I was thinking, maybe we should have a similar poll for authors! After all, the Creepypasta Wiki already has "Author Of The Month"!

The poll is here ! Please consider!

ADMIN NOTE: There is no reason for this poll to be off-site. As such, I'm moving it here. Each non-neutral response should have a good reason backing it or it will not be accounted for.

    • Oppose Oppose - First off (and least importantly) I feel like it is already enough that we can vote for PotM.

Second, it could be a deterrent for spotlighting new authors. People might vote for already known authors, or authors who haven't even been on the site for a while (and most likely not coming back).

Third, there is a slight posibility of dry months where nobody nominates anybody. People come here for the stories not caring who wrote them.

And finally, as an extention to third, there could be months when only people who have already won AotM could be nominated.

    • Oppose Oppose - I'm with NedWolfkin on this one. I think it's a cool idea, but there are far fewer authors than pastas, so eventually... slim pickings. Besides that, how many awards do we need? We're not actors. Well, I do have a theory that BloodySpghetti is actually Antonio Banderas, but I can't prove it yet. :b

    • Oppose Oppose - We already have Featured Author, special categories for authors with a lot of stories, and the Writer's Showcase. We don't need any more "special" classes of users who aren't staff.

    • Oppose Oppose - I oppose because everyone else was and I didnt want to be left out. What would be cool is if we did Narrator of the month or put me and spirit on it. That would help.

    • Neutral Neutral -

Good: It might increase interest in the site.

Bad: I am afraid it would be another easily manipulated contest of the popularity of the individual people in the politics of the site, not the quality of the writer's collective body of work.

Also, we don't have that many good writers. What do after everyone who is active and half way decent has won.

I could see a poll on the best narration of the month, assuming it's a narration of this site's stories. That would team the narrator and the author, and might also lead to greater collaboration between them.

Yeah I agree. Just putting us on the front would help with channel growth.

Yeah. Plus I think it is safe to say that no one else has a chance if an administrator is nominated.

Didn't we alreay vote against this?

I'm not sure, I know we talked about it but nothing ever happened.

    • Support Support - Okay, it seems pretty silly, considering I am the one who wanted to do this in the first place, but I think it is a good idea for the following reasons:

      1. It is a good way to stir up community participation and have more people on this wiki being active.

      2. Creepypasta Wiki already has AoTM but doesn't allow the public to vote. This could possibly turn a few authors off and have them finding a different wiki.

      3. It will get more authors active and writing stories so that they can see their name in AoTM. Considering that it will be a public vote, they are a lot more likely to win the award.

I respect your opinion, but are the votes of the proposers even counted?

I feel like this could have disastrous results if people start writing stories just to be nominated for AotM. We're going to get a whole bunch of new authors who are going to break the rules by nominating themselves the minute they complete their stories which may or may not end up being deleted.

Also, there is the possibility of people from outside wikis coming here just to nominate and/or vote for their friends without any intentions of ever coming here again.

Oh yeah. Now that I think about it, I guess that's why a lot of wikis end up dead.
