    "The Uncanny" (1977)

Recently there was a "funny" picture posted in the LOL Cats and Dogs thread that showed a dead cat with a sign that said "Free Cat".

This was, I believe, repulsive. It has since been removed or is hidden and the person who posted it has apologized and meant no offense.

It also recently came to my attention that a long-time poster here had a similar picture as his avatar, which he has now graciously changed, although his new avatar is still pretty much anti-cat.

So I guess my question is two-fold:

    1. What do you have against cats, if you do?

    and

    2. What has society got against cats?

Think about it. Would either of the pictures or avatars described above be acceptable if they were dogs? I don't think we'd see them.

Rob Zombie (not exactly a sane person) sings about torturing cats and no one bats an eye. Would it be different if he talked about harming dogs?

Cats die to little fanfare in Boondock Saints and humorously (assuming you find this shit funny you bastards...) in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.

Would these movies pass the censors if the victims were dogs?

(In the case of Christmas Vacation, yeah, probably, since a dog is dragged to death in the first Vacation movie)

I bet I could find other instances of cats being killed or tortured in movies and no one caring. But if a dog is injured, people go apeshit.

Maybe I'm just overly sensitive here, but it really gets my blood boiling! I hate dogs and everything about them (*People's guns aiming at me* WHO WANTS SOME?!) and I want this constant fucking cat abuse to end! Just shut up and leave them alone! You're driving them crazy!

    • Well, media that portray antisocial behavior such as animal cruelty for cheap shock value also often focus on dark and mystical themes for which cats tend to fit more than dogs. See "The Cats of Ulthar (SP? don't care) by HPL, for example.

It may also be that since mankind has a longer history of killing canines or placing them at risk of being killed for legitimate reasons, killing or abusing cats it considered more shocking.

By the way have you ever seen or heard of the movie Felidae?

    • Yeah, and it's fucked up. And yes, I did heard of Cats of Ulthar, but never seen or read it. It's only a matter of time before the Black Plague comes back, causing hell on earth as we speak.

    • What do I have against cats?

My mother had a HORRIBLE Siamese cat when I was growing up. Just viscous and crazy. It would walk up and sink its teeth into me for no reason, and it drew blood. I've never had a dog do anything like that.

What do movies have against cats? Two things, I think.

      • Cats are perceived as feminine, so it's like abusing women.
      • Dogs have a real, loving, affectionate relationship with you. I've had dogs that loved me more than themselves. Cats don't do that. They look on people as a provider of resources.

    • I'm not much into dogs, but I see what you mean. But I learned that not ALL cats are bad, my god sister's cat, Pepper, actually loves me. He purrs when I pet him, he comes to me when I call, and he DOESN'T see me as a provider of resources, but like a big brother that he looks up to.

The reason I raged quite on this article is because I tried so hard to prove to cat haters that cats are not the bad guys here, but it seems that they're not listening and continuing on what they're doing. And when I ask them why they do what they do (in a very polite way keep in mind), they lash out at me or ignore me in general. So that's why I have a problem with cat haters, because they're far more WORSE than dog haters (like the dog hating mother or many others on YouTube).

And seeing your comment DrBobSmith, your the first anti-cat person that's not rabid! Lol.

Not all cats are bad. Not all dogs are good. But my mind was made up because all the dogs I have had have been good and the cat I lived with was bad. It's a small sample size, I know, but it's what's locked up in my head.

It's impossible to change anyone's mind on anything when they don't want to change. You can try, but usually everyone will get frustrated. It's mind over reality. We're all professionals at that.

    • You know what... you just put the nail on the coffin, right there.

When you said, "It's mind over reality", that really opened my eyes a bit on the situation at hand. Thanks Bob, thanks for giving some advise. :)
