Overall, I managed to write 12 short stories in 2024 and publish them to a site even if I didn't write one every month. I failed some aspects of the resolution while succeeding in others.
I might edit this later to add more information about what I did.
I wasn't really expecting to succeed at all, but I didn't manage to succeed according to the strictest interpretation of what I promised (one story per month on this site). I failed on both fronts (not one story per month, not 12 pages on this site) and now I only have 10 stories on this site because I deleted the one which I only wrote in order to write a 12th one. However, since I definitely got way closer to succeeding than I anticipated, I might do something like this again.
I'm not going to do the same thing, though. I feel like if you were to do it, I would suggest:
- setting up separate challenges for writing 12 stories and writing one a month
- specifying a variety of sites where you can write stories so it doesn't get stale
- also, making sure what sort of writing "counts" as writing a story for this challenge
- setting up the plan over a week or something instead of just a day
- specifying what kinds of stories you have to write
- figuring out some kind of point system or something that rewards you for writing more than one story a month (as opposed to the dumb punishment system)
- figure out better punishments than drawing attention to old stories
- competently use discussion posts or something so more people comment (maybe every time you post a story?)
Overall, I thought I would fail humorously and completely, but I actually failed boringly and partially. I could laugh, but I could rejoice, and I choose to... do a completely different challenge.
New Year's Resolution 2025: Give my sister something she can publish.
Wish me luck.
(If you have any ideas for that, feel free to share.)
