Article CommentsEdit

Please refrain from making multiple comments on a single article when they could both be easily combined into a single comment.  Thank you.  ClericofMadness (talk) 04:45, January 18, 2016 (UTC)

A little heads up, if you're going to keep a tally of your comments on stories, you should only mark milestones (25/50/100/etc.) as updating your profile each time is a bit too similar to pointsgaming as each update counts as an edit. EmpyrealInvective (talk) 19:33, January 20, 2016 (UTC)
^ Last warning. EmpyrealInvective (talk) 19:43, January 20, 2016 (UTC)
And now you've been blocked for one day for not taking warnings into account. The next infraction will be treated as pointsgaming which carries a much longer ban so please stop. EmpyrealInvective (talk) 20:01, January 20, 2016 (UTC)
I mentioned above that you can update it with every 25 or so as milestones, the real issue lies in updating it so often that it has to be checked each time, inflates your edit count, floods the RC (recent change) board admins use to keep up with edits, and really adds nothing overall. As for Shining-Armor's edit below, I believe she's joking about your insistence on going against advice despite being warned, translating your name from Burmese and messaging you in Burmese for effect. You can ask her yourself if you really want to know, but I'm pretty sure it was for comic purposes. EmpyrealInvective (talk) 20:21, January 21, 2016 (UTC)
It really is a matter of preference, I try to include messages all in the same area for easy reference. Headers can be added to individual messages but due to my archive page being 20+ separate pages, I try to get everything as condensed as possible so I don't have to archive it every week. As for the numbers in green you saw, those indicate the number of characters (letters/spaces) used in an edit/message. EmpyrealInvective (talk) 21:54, January 21, 2016 (UTC)

Yes, I saw your username which is in Burmese and I Google Translated a message in Burmese for comedic effect.

Re: Minor QuestionEdit

Some are deleted, users have requested stories to be deleted, some are deleted by admins who believe the story is no longer up to quality standards. If that's the case, the page usually reads that the story has been deleted and gives a reason. It could also be that you incorrectly entered the title and are directing to a page that doesn't exist/hasn't been made. There are a number of reasons why a story may be deleted. EmpyrealInvective (talk) 23:09, January 22, 2016 (UTC)

Hey there, whatever your name is Edit

I have been watching your review system and was wondering if you would be willing to rate some of my stores. You seem to really give a detailed, unbiased critique of a story, and that is something that I long for. i know a lot of other people on this site are willing to give critique, but I sometimes feel like they are just stroking the author to get a good review on one of their stories. So if you are willing and have the time, there are three stories I would like it if you could look at. They are:

Spirit Bottles

To the Moon

Voice Messages

Please let me know if you are willing to do this and if you would be so kind, or unkind, depending on how you view the story.

Long Live Milk Crates!Edit

Sorry, I was just feeling ornery and thought it would be funny if I managed to get someone to call you milk crates (since your username looks like boxes). Admittedly, it isn't like many people would be able to call me out on my joke. I hope you found it funny and if it offended then I am sorry. I haven't the faintest idea what it says, but I'm guessing it is Burmese. Buckle up I'm going to be popular 03:52, January 29, 2016 (UTC)

You should make a habit of sending hatemail in squares (Burmese?) though. Few people would actually be able to read it and google translate does not compute. Puns are sort of a big deal 'round these parts. So many facepalms to be had :D Buckle up I'm going to be popular 07:19, January 30, 2016 (UTC)

RE: Milk Carton Edit

Hey there,

I saw you commenting on other people's stories with a detailed rating system. Most of the time when I see people rating with numbers they are just saying something like 5/10 or whatever. So I wanted to see how some of my stories fared to your more detailed rating system. I found your name, clicked on it and left a message. Wish there was a more exciting way I found you, like some Spyhard story, but that is about it.

I almost sailed off the edge of the world Edit

The world is flat, as you know. And the pyramids aren't playing Taylor Swift, they play Chubby Checker. I would love for you to keep review the stories, did you look at another one today? I'm sorry, your messages are really cryptic.

JohnathanNash (talk) 01:18, January 30, 2016 (UTC)

SHhhhhhh!!! Take it like a man Edit

We do, and now I also have a general idea of where you live. You live in the Central American time zone, which narrows it down to a handful of states instead of the whole world. I'll tell the aliens to visit that area first, well, the normally do seem to be there. Keep talking and I'll have your name and address before long, then you will know who it is follow you in a sky mask? :)  —Preceding unsigned comment added by JohnathanNash (talkcontribs).

Oh, that was you I'll always assumed it was Grand Duchess Olga Nikolaevna. Now those aliens "the mysterians" are my pals. Let hope Mary Mbretëresha e skocezëve nuk ka marrë You. Re: Checking messages Edit

You can look at the history of your page to see who posted what and when. You can also put this template next to their message to identify them: {{Unsigned|username}} for future reference. EmpyrealInvective (talk) 00:34, January 31, 2016 (UTC)

No problem. EmpyrealInvective (talk) 00:52, January 31, 2016 (UTC)

I thought I did sign it Edit

Thank you for your review, and I am glad that you enjoyed that story, even though not as much as the other. As for that message, I did think that I sign it, but I must have forgotten. I wouldn't send some creepy shit like that without at least talking to the person first. But apparently, I can't type tonight, most of the time writing this has been correcting errors. So I will leave off here and go mess around for a little bit.

Re: DeletionsEdit

We re-tooled our quality standards a year or so back. For the first few years, basically anything and everything was accepted and the wiki ballooned up to 13,000+ stories. Unfortunately we've been playing catch-up and deleting stories that are unoriginal/no longer up to our current quality standards due to public demand for quality over quantity. As we check every message/comment/edit, it's easy to come across stories that need a lot of work/our not well-written. Hope that answers your question. EmpyrealInvective (talk) 23:39, February 5, 2016 (UTC)

Dear stalker/mental case (joking),
There really isn't much reason for the authors to complain, especially when those stories have been on the site for years and received multiple negative comments and they really didn't bother to revise their stories. Really the onus on making a good story falls on the author and if they don't put in the work, they really don't have much room to complain. As for the salt mines, I happen to have a (delicious) genetic predisposition to salt (coincidentally heart attacks and high cholesterol too) so having a user get salty/mean on my talk page doesn't upset me much. Well, I'll let you get back to reviewing, have a good one. EmpyrealInvective (talk) 00:31, February 6, 2016 (UTC)
The other admins are pretty good guys (except that Empyr-whatever guy... what a douche-nozzle). Don't hesitate to message them (or me) if you have questions about how the site's run. Most will respond in a timely manner. I would say, this is probably the best group of people I worked with besides the Peace Corps. EmpyrealInvective (talk) 03:00, February 6, 2016 (UTC)

Fine, be that way Edit

By all means keep talking to me. Just because you had read the stories doesn't mean that you can't leave a message on my page once in a while, and I am sure I'll ask you again to look at some of my stores.

I suppose that you are correct in saying that I write Lovecraftian horror, he had influenced me a lot. But I think I just like strange fiction more than standard horror when there is a ax wielding mad man just filling the buckets with blood. That had never really struck me as something that I wanted to watch or write about.

Anyway, thank you again for your reviews.

Talk to you later,

JohnathanNash (talk) 01:53, February 7, 2016 (UTC)

I'm putting my ski mask back on Edit

Truthfully, I don't read any of the stories on this site unless someone asks me to. There are so really terrible stories that try to make good "horror story" but don't understand that disgusting imagery isn't the same as horror. I've found some good ones, but for the most part they are all the same, some kid gets bullied, rape, so much blood and guts, bad grammar, and other stupid shit.

If you want to find something that is really good though, look into the Skulduggery Pleasant series. They are for young adult, but they are funny and well written. Also, they aren't like most young adult where it is written for people who must be invalids. Anyway, that is the series I just finished and now I am working on Blood Meridian, and doing research on the stories from Nightmare Mag, to try and get published there.

Re: Not Sure I Know What You MeanEdit

Are you talking about the comment that got removed on the Writer's Workshop post? If that's the case, it was due to the fact that the workshop is a place for authors to get feedback/assistance on their stories and your comment that you don't read stories ("I refuse to read a story in the thread forums.") really doesn't help the author out and may even derail a thread where they are actually looking for help. As for Lake Placid, it needed sequels to feed the money-monster that Hollywood has become. (Also for probably another Betty White cameo) EmpyrealInvective (talk) 18:10, February 7, 2016 (UTC)

Re: AchievementsEdit

You dare mis-recognize Betty White?! Betty White is golden (girl). As for the Candle Cove achievement it isn't necessarily fault. For example the official wiki time (UTC) says it's 1:30 in the morning (as of typing this). It resets at midnight so it is possible you made a post and it marked it as being on the same day. That being said, badges are all but pointless. They really get you nothing and just act as a hollow incentive to get users contributing. EmpyrealInvective (talk) 01:34, February 9, 2016 (UTC)

Re: Okay, Fine BrosEdit

Basically. badges tend to just help by setting goals that would help out the wiki (in theory), like editing stories, commenting on blogs (community building), and categorizing stories. It doesn't really work out that way most times, you'll notice that in the top twenty or so (last time I looked), most are no longer active. As for Aliens: Colonial Marines, I don't think anyone can be tricked into believing it's a good game even with trophies and achievements. EmpyrealInvective (talk) 00:31, February 10, 2016 (UTC)

Re: DifferencesEdit has open and closed submission periods which tend to result in a slower influx of stories. Quality-wise, we're about the same (although occasionally they do post a story which makes you wonder). EmpyrealInvective (talk) 23:19, February 13, 2016 (UTC)

Hey again Edit

The stories that are all the same drive me crazy. But there are some good ones, but they are hard to find. If you can find any of the ones that are good, like really good, let me know. I normally try to keep from reading a lot of the crap on this site, there are a few that were really good. But, I mostly stopped reading because there is so much shit that you have to shift through to get to the gems.

But let me know what good stories you find, I'll look over them once I get some time.

JohnathanNash (talk) 21:05, February 14, 2016 (UTC)

The System is DownEdit

We resolved it pretty quickly, but yeah, that happens from time to time. EmpyrealInvective (talk) 01:33, February 16, 2016 (UTC)

Not feeling too hot today actually. EmpyrealInvective (talk) 22:38, February 20, 2016 (UTC)

Re: PaidEdit

I get paid in admiration and smiles. To answer your question, nope, this is strictly volunteer work. Admins basically start out as every other user but over time (and multiple edits) a few apply for the position of admin to better manage the site. EmpyrealInvective (talk) 17:49, March 6, 2016 (UTC)

Blank PagesEdit

It's likely a browser issue. If you clear your cache and refresh the page, the story should be back to normal. Additionally, you should still be able to view the page in editor mode. If you look in the history and the page has been blanked, let us know and we'll fix it, but for now I can view the page normally. EmpyrealInvective (talk) 19:50, March 9, 2016 (UTC)

Re: ErrorsEdit

I corrected it for you, when making your header with this template: ==Header==, you forgot the first equal sign which made the template think you wanted your message to be the header. (and every message after that.) EmpyrealInvective (talk) 19:08, March 10, 2016 (UTC)
