Re: Land Before Time

The story was removed after review determined it was below our current quality standards. Here's a copy, please do not reupload it as it will result in a temporary ban. EmpyrealInvective (talk) 18:09, March 21, 2017 (UTC)

No problem, have a good one. EmpyrealInvective (talk) 19:44, March 21, 2017 (UTC)

A Heads-up

Edits which add wording and/or change authorial style should be brought up with the person who wrote the story and not made without their permission. I reverted your edits because they did both of those things. The author chose to capitalize the pronouns to re-instate the importance of that entity (like capitalizing pronouns when referring to a god/deity). I would suggest reviewing the site rules as further infractions are likely going to result in a warning/ban from an admin. EmpyrealInvective (talk) 15:49, June 20, 2018 (UTC)

Edits

Please don't make edits to the wording of a story . Since you've already been warned about this once I'm going to give you a short 24 hour ban but please be more careful in the future ChristianWallis (talk) 15:27, June 10, 2019 (UTC)

Re: Adding Videos

I'll give the narration a listen, check in with the other admins to try and reach a consensus, and reach out to the author in question. Unfortunately I've got an exam today so in the meantime, do you want to post the URL on my talk page to avoid confusion/misattribution. EmpyrealInvective (talk) 12:20, September 24, 2019 (UTC)

I saw it and will share it with the other admins so we can give it a listen and decide. Have a good one. EmpyrealInvective (talk) 01:40, September 26, 2019 (UTC)

Re: Videos Response

The admins and I have talked it over and unfortunately decided that there are too many factors at play to add something without the original author’s permission that may impact the style/format of their story. Given that we are leaning away from allowing users to re-post/share content that they are not the creators of in favor of original works, I think this is another instance where we should not add anything that may impact the author’s work in any way without their expressed approval.

We're even leaning towards removing videos from older works that were not added by the original author that we're 'grandfathered' in under the previous guidelines of allowing media to be added. As such, we are going to refrain from adding any media to an authors’ work unless they have given their permission. Enjoy the rest of your day. Re: Commenting

I haven't heard of issues like this before so I'm afraid I won't be of much help here. My best advice would be to take this issue to staff on the Community Wiki to see if they can troubleshoot or try clearing the cache on your browser to see if that helps as that's often a problem when users are having site functionality issues. Hope that helps. EmpyrealInvective (talk) 15:20, October 5, 2019 (UTC)

Glad to hear it, sorry I didn't have a more helpful answer. EmpyrealInvective (talk) 13:53, October 7, 2019 (UTC)

Edits

Just a heads-up, this wiki accepts both region-specific spelling in articles. (Neighbor/neighbour, defense/defence, color/colour, realized/realised) it tends to cause an editing tug of war with users changing and reverting it back. Please leave those region-specific words alone when editing a story. EmpyrealInvective (talk) 02:07, October 8, 2019 (UTC)

Yeah, a lot of spellcheck/grammar checkers are set to American English and will mark words like "colour", "defence", and "realise", as incorrect when they're just British English (as is the term maths). This wiki accepts both forms of spelling otherwise we have people 'fixing' and 're-fixing' spelling endlessly without needing the user to specify their spelling preference (other than through the writing itself) as it tends to break immersion. As for the spacing edits, just make sure they're uniform. If the author uses a single space or a double space (also an accepted form) in-between their sentences, you can edit to correct discrepancies as long as it's in keeping with the author's original writing. EmpyrealInvective (talk) 13:40, October 9, 2019 (UTC)
Given this site's users are from all over the place (currently a majority of the admins do not live in the U.S. and use British English spelling and I know a lot of users who like in the U.K.), I really don't see an issue with people sticking to their regional-spelling as long as long people recognize that both forms are correct according to our editing rules and don't change their stylistic choices. Re: Posting Other Authors' Stories

Our site rules have recently changed due to concerns about conflicting licenses, authors' rights, and possible issues with accreditation/mis-accreditation/plagiarism. We announced a few months back [https://creepypasta.fandom.com/wiki/User_blog:EmpyrealInvective/An_Important_Announcement_Regarding_Stories that this site would no longer accept stories posted by people other than the original author unless they gave explicit/verifiable permission (in screencap/email/etc. form). As such, in order to post those stories, you would need to get the original author's permission to do so while explaining that stories posted here are under CC-BY-SA licenses. If you want more in-depth explanation as to why this change has been enacted, you can read the links/announcement provided. EmpyrealInvective (talk) 17:16, January 10, 2020 (UTC)

Re: Narrations

Feel free to ask. EmpyrealInvective (talk) 22:14, February 20, 2020 (UTC)

To find the source of the story (like you want to find out what source they used for their narration), or to ask permission to post it on the article page? If it's the latter, then that really doesn't qualify to override the author/OP's stylistic intent (i.e. what they want posted to their story in the form of videos, photos, etc.) as there are likely numerous narrations that the author may/may not want associated with their story or have a preference for other sources/narrators. EmpyrealInvective (talk)
If the author doesn't say yes to posting the video to their story, then yeah, we can't really post a narration to their page. EmpyrealInvective (talk) 00:36, February 22, 2020 (UTC)
The mostly likely place to find the author's name is at the start of a story or the bottom of the page ("Written by ______"). You can also look in the edit history to see who originally posted the story if they are not listed. Unfortunately, when creepypasta was in its infancy, a lot of stories were shared without citation or posted anonymously so finding the original author is difficult and will likely require digging through google to find the original source and tracking it back to the OP.
As for the other matter, a user violated our discussions board rules. They were warned on multiple occasions about it, but ignored those warnings. As a result, they were issued a temporary ban. EmpyrealInvective (talk) 16:09, February 23, 2020 (UTC)
It's your choice if you feel like the narration/media you want to add enhances their story enough to try and reach out to the original author. As for the post you mentioned, I'd advise against removing any one else's messages or posts. Doing so may result in a warning and/or temporary ban as the talk page system is integral for communication. EmpyrealInvective (talk) 02:11, February 24, 2020 (UTC)
As I said above, it's a matter of preference. There's no hard and fast rules to contacting users. A user being inactive could mean multiple things. It could mean they've left the wiki and will not return even if they are contacted. It could mean that other things came up and they are inactive, but may respond to messages if they get a notification email. If they voluntarily put up the inactive template on their page, then it's likely they are not checking on the site and probably aren't going to return after receiving email notifications. I tend to not message people who haven't been active for six months as they've likely moved on, but that's just me. As for whether or not to message inactive users in regards to narrations, it comes down to you. EmpyrealInvective (talk) 15:26, February 25, 2020 (UTC)
Yup, if there's no response to a message, take it as a no. Have a good one! EmpyrealInvective (talk) 00:24, February 26, 2020 (UTC)
Until they respond (adding a video/doing a narration/doing anything else involving their story without their approval is not a good approach). If they don't respond a a month, then they likely don't want a narration or aren't around anymore. If you're still wanting to get in contact with them then you need to do more digging to find find what sites they currently frequent (if any). EmpyrealInvective (talk) 15:07, February 27, 2020 (UTC)
To answer your questions: No, permission is not needed to upload narrations to the comment section. No, they should not be uploaded to the page if they are posted in the comments. Once again, it is the author's decision whether or not they want a narration to accompany their story on the story itself. Some authors do not want narrations on their stories for stylistic or preferential purposes. As for asking the author, chances are if it's posted to the comments section of their story, they are already aware so it would likely come off as redundant. If it's an older story from the historical archive that was uploaded and the current author is unknown or off site, then it's very likely that we are not going to do anything that may compromise what they want without getting their input first. EmpyrealInvective (talk) 15:25, March 1, 2020 (UTC)
It's fine to remove deadlinks from videos. Just state that you're doing that in the editing summary. EmpyrealInvective (talk) 15:23, March 5, 2020 (UTC)
No, if you don't have the original authors' permission; do not post narrations on the story itself. Not receiving a response or lacking a means to contact does not equivocate to permission to post something without their approval. As for the users mentioning your name on their pages, they are using a template that automatically lists the reader's username ("{{USERNAME}}",) and it's nothing to worry about. EmpyrealInvective (talk) 13:26, March 13, 2020 (UTC)

Holder Narrations

I technically didn't write those stories; I got the Holder of False Truth from here, and that site is also where the other one came from.

However, you are free to add narrations to these stories, and I applaud your conscientiousness in asking me if you could add narrations. It was a good thing to do.

Have a good day,

Re: Dead Videos

That sounds good, but here are just a few tweaks to the plan to make it a bit easier for you. When you remove a dead video, you don't need to message me to report it. Once the wiki refreshes (typically daily), videos that aren't on article pages get added to here. From there, I can easily remove the dead video without needing to be messaged. That being said, I would suggest putting what you're doing in the edit reason to prevent any confusion (something like "removing dead video" or something to that effect) or anyone reverting your edit.

As always, admins try to review any edits made to make sure everything's on the up and up so doing that would help to prevent any misunderstandings. As for locked pages, feel free to report them when you come across them. Have a good one. EmpyrealInvective (talk) 15:02, April 28, 2020 (UTC)

I typically run a batch delete on unused videos (see link above) when there's ten+ or on a monthly basis. EmpyrealInvective (talk) 16:09, May 1, 2020 (UTC)
Addressed it. Have a good one. EmpyrealInvective (talk) 13:12, May 4, 2020 (UTC)
Removed them, enjoy the rest of your day. EmpyrealInvective (talk) 13:23, May 13, 2020 (UTC)
Sorry, my internet has been down since Friday (still is down, I hiked up to my school to check in on the site and steal their wifi for a bit). I'll try to get to the pages once my internet is back up and running, but since my internet provider ghosted me, there's no promised that it'll be resolved soon. Sorry for any inconvenience. EmpyrealInvective (talk) 19:51, June 21, 2020 (UTC)
It's your choice. I will say that it's not a huge inconvenience or anything for me. I can pop on when I get free time (Campus is a short walk away) and remove the videos without much issue every day or so. The cable company contacted me and told me they'd be stopping by soon (no day given though...) so hopefully I get it fixed by the weekend. Thanks for doing this, have a good one ! EmpyrealInvective (talk) 15:17, June 24, 2020 (UTC)
Feel free to remove dead videos from users' pages. Please just state you're doing so in the edit summary to prevent any confusion. I've been checking your edits to make sure the videos are dead/removed and I'll continue to do so. Have a good one. EmpyrealInvective (talk) 15:44, June 25, 2020 (UTC)
There were no issues with your edits to remove a dead video from the user's page. As for making a new thread, it was for a new topic. You broached the idea of adding videos to a Shinigami's story as opposed to talking about videos that have been removed that could be cleaned up from this site. EmpyrealInvective (talk) 14:04, June 28, 2020 (UTC)
I'll look into it after my exam and consult the admins to see if we can find an alternate video. EmpyrealInvective (talk) 14:09, July 1, 2020 (UTC)

I removed the dead video (Squidward's Suicide) from the forum post it was on and will delete it with the other unlinked videos later. As for LTS, we are looking for a suitable replacement that features the "Beta Lavender Town Music" and is stable (less likely to be pulled). We'll hopefully have a good alternative up shortly. Have a good one. EmpyrealInvective (talk) 13:04, July 2, 2020 (UTC)

Got it. As for LTS, we're still looking. The problem is that we need to find a video that matches the 'high-pitched beta' version that is unlikely to be pulled. We've narrowed it down to three choices and are going from there. I hope to have an answer back by the end of this weekend and a new video uploaded. EmpyrealInvective (talk) 18:36, July 3, 2020 (UTC)
Added the Lavender Town music about a week ago. EmpyrealInvective (talk) 13:40, July 15, 2020 (UTC)
I removed the dead video. As for the two duplicates, they are being used in separate profiles and places. As it's difficult to track down where those videos are shared (i.e. they can be in places other than the user profile like in comments, forums, and used by other users), I'm going to refrain from removing one or the other as I don't want to accidentally remove active videos or disrupt any links people may have off-site to those videos.
As duplicate videos aren't a very large issue, I'm probably not going to remove them unless there's extenuating circumstances (like a duplicate video being spammed). Thanks for the help. Have a good one. EmpyrealInvective (talk) 14:12, August 6, 2020 (UTC)
Copy/paste: Duplicates are being used in separate profiles and places.
